Plans have been submitted to Mole Valley District Council for the redevelopment of Hartsfield Manor in Betchworth, Surrey.
PLP’s plans for Hartsfield Manor
The proposals, submitted by PLP Architecture on behalf of HB Devco, seek to restore the existing manor house hotel and transform it into a 69-key luxury hotel and spa retreat, with new facilities including an event space, hotel extension, woodland lodges and elevated treehouses.
Hartsfield Manor is located south-west of Betchworth, between Dorking and Reigate, and around 20 miles from central London.
The estate, originally constructed in the 1860s as a private country residence, currently operates as a hotel and event venue and has also been used as a filming location for television and film, including Apple TV’s series Slow Horses.
Ron Bakker, founding partner at PLP Architecture, said: “The Hartsfield Manor project is defined by its extraordinary setting. As one of PLP’s first rural architectural projects, we embraced the natural undulations of the site, shaping new accommodation into the hillside to maximise views and deepen guests’ connection to the landscape.
“Later additions that diluted the manor’s presence were removed, and the new buildings, formed from local natural materials, are rooted firmly in the land.”
Subject to approval, the project will be delivered through a phased construction programme.
