Mexican restaurant group Wahaca has appointed placemaking agency P-Three to accelerate its UK presence by opening one or two new sites a year.

A Wahaca spokesman said it will add to its 14 existing restaurants by opening new stores in Cambridge, Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham and multiple sites across London.

It will spend on average £1m to £1.5m developing 2,500 sq ft to 4,500 sq ft units, building its presence in competition with a number of other new brands that have entered the market.

Wahaca said the new sites will “continue to push the boundaries of sustainable design and construction, which will complement the group’s environmentally conscious and from-scratch, freshly cooked menu.”

Mark Selby, co-founder and chairman of Wahaca, said: “After the huge success of our Paddington opening in 2024 and the incredible feedback on Wahaca Reimagined across our 14 individually designed restaurants, we are excited to be again looking to bring Wahaca’s unique restaurant experience to different areas of the UK.

“We want to find buildings that lend themselves to our distinctive look and feel and know that P-Three will do an excellent job bringing that vision to life.”

Wahaca was acquired in 2020 by Dick Enthoven, the billionaire owner of Nando’s, through a £4m stake in its parent company, Oaxaca.
