Over 700 leading members of the commercial property industry made their way to the London Hilton Park Lane on Thursday 26 September for the 40th anniversary of the Microscope Ball, raising over £500k to support people living with muscle wasting conditions.

A ‘Relive the 80s’ theme marked the occasion, which brought together 740 members of the commercial property industry with one common goal – to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK, the leading charity for more than 110,000 adults and children in the UK living with one of over 60 muscle wasting and weakening conditions. A total of £511,475 was raised, which will help the charity fund groundbreaking research and life changing support.

The 40th anniversary Microscope Ball was hosted by Miss Demeanour and guests enjoyed a three-course meal and entertainment from the Globestar dancers as well as a host of fundraising games and activities.

Guests heard from Muscular Dystrophy UK Trustee, James Lee, and there was a live auction hosted by auctioneer Jonny Gould, as well as an online auction with over 60 lots to bid on. But the highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the inspirational and heartfelt speech by Louisa Hill, whose son lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The Microscope Ball is the flagship fundraising event for Muscular Dystrophy UK and has raised almost £8 million for the charity to date.

Cathey Cullum, Special Events Manager at Muscular Dystrophy UK said: “We were blown away by the support in the room at The Microscope Ball 2024. The property industry has been fantastic at supporting us over the years and we really can’t thank them enough for everything they do. From the committee behind the Ball to sponsors and people who come along on the night, it makes such a difference. Fundraising like this enables us to continue providing life changing support for people living with muscle wasting conditions as well as funding groundbreaking research. On behalf of everyone at the charity and in our community, I’d like to say a huge thank you.”
