Plans have been unveiled for a £480m hotel, residential and resort development near the village of Wellbank in Angus.
The Brae of Angus development on land at Shank of Omachie will comprise 185 housing plots, a 150-room five-star Hyatt-branded hotel – the first five-star hotel in Angus – and a further 350 rooms split between lodges, townhouse suites and corporate fractional-ownership lodges, across the 310-acre site.
The plans also include an 18-hole championship golf course, golf academy, country club, spa and events area.
The site was recently purchased by Angus Land Company (ALC) and is owned by private investment company Mocca Capital, which is working in partnership with Castle Properties, an established international developer.
“The development represents one of the most significant hospitality investments in Scotland in recent years, with a projected investment of approximately £480m,” said a spokesperson for ALC.
“In delivering this project, the housing component is essential, with proceeds from these sales reinvested to cross-fund and support the tourist-focused elements, including the hotel, golf and broader resort development.”
Hyatt will operate the hotel and associated facilities while global marketing company IMG will manage the golf business, events and wider leisure offerings.
A proposal of application notice has been submitted to Angus Council. Masterplan permission was previously granted in 2022 for a smaller-scale scheme on the site.
