YTL Developments has gained planning approval for One Brabazon Gateway, a seven storey, 123,000 sq ft office building at the entrance to Brabazon New Town outside Bristol.
The developer has also advanced plans for three further buildings at the site: a headquarters building, an affordable workspace and an office building.
Sister firm YTL Construction UK has started building The Interchange, the first commercial building at the New Town.
One Brabazon Gateway, which will feature a communal rooftop clubhouse, a fitness studio, as well as a Waitrose supermarket at ground level and a 1,650 space multi-storey car park, will also be built by YTL Construction.
Seb Loyn, planning and development director at YTL Developments, said: “Securing planning approval for One Brabazon Gateway marks another major milestone for Brabazon.
“Rising enquiries and a growing choice of places to eat, meet and spend time here are building a critical mass of activity, giving us the confidence to accelerate and broaden our commercial offer.”
Steve Lane, office leasing and tenant representative at the scheme’s agent, Cushman & Wakefield, said: “There remains a clear shortage of prime workspace in Bristol. One Brabazon Gateway delivers high-quality, energy-efficient offices in a location that will help occupiers attract and retain talent.”
YTL Developments plans to create up to 6,500 homes and a range of creative workplaces as well as new schools and community facilities at Brabazon, including the 20,000-capacity Aviva Arena.
It said £100m is also being invested to improve local infrastructure, including a new station connecting Brabazon to Bristol Temple Meads.
The Brabazon development is being built on a 400-acre site previously occupied by Filton Airfield, where aircraft such as the supersonic airliner Concorde was developed.
