Plans for 4.8m sq ft of manufacturing space at the soon-to-close Coventry Airport have been approved by Warwick Council.

Greenpower Park Coventry
The proposals include seven facilities, ranging in size from 69,000 sq ft to 1.5m sq ft, and form the first step of the wider £2.5bn battery gigafactory project known as Greenpower Park.
The airport will cease operations in June to make way for Greenpower Park, a joint venture between Coventry City Council and Coventry Airport, supported by £23m funding from the West Midlands Combined Authority.
The partners want to establish a centre of excellence for battery technology, advanced manufacturing and clean energy.
The latest approval builds on an outline permission for GreenPower Park that was approved in March 2022, enabling the development of a battery manufacturing facility with ancillary battery recycling capability on the site.
The site was first developed as an aerodrome in 1936 by Coventry City Council and was later used as an RAF fighter station during the Second World War.
The airport continued to operate as a commercial and freight airport until a brief closing in 2009. It opened again, under new ownership in 2010 as a commercial airport.
